Spring OOTD: Channeling Yellow Sunshine

Spring is finally here (and hopefully to stay) so I decided to brighten up my wardrobe with some summery pants. I’m a sucker for fun sale items, so when I found these cute yellow, slightly flowy, pants and the simple print top, I had to get them. This OOTD was all about comfy textures combined with fun elements like the print dog and the bright colored pants and shoes.

What changes have you made with your wardrobe now that summer approaches?

Haul Post: Massive Spring/Summer Haul

I don’t often do haul posts but I just wanted to share a few cute items I got for myself for the spring and, of course, for the summer!

fashion haul

As part of my haul, I bought these clothes from Sheinside:

1. Blue kimono – I haven’t owned a kimono before but I gave in to the recent kimono frenzy and got this one. I’m hoping it’ll protect me from too much sun during the summer (I get very bad sun rash and I burn easily).

2. The loveliest long summer dress – I adore these colors and it’ll be perfect for my trips to Istanbul and Barcelona! (I don’t own many long dresses so this is a welcome addition to my wardrobe.)

3. Crop top – I hate revealing my stomach but this one was on sale and I thought it looked cute (didn’t hurt that Karen Gillan has a similar one) so I thought maybe it’d inspire me to get into better shape.

The books I got from Amazon:

1. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell – I love Rowell’s books that this has been on my list of books to read for quite some time now.

2. True Whit – I got this for like a penny, so I thought I’d get it. Hills and The City are my guilty pleasures. Shh!!

Finally:

1. A fanny pack I got from New Look – it’s a cute festival bag and I’d love to be able to go out to festivals (Sonar in Barcelona and maybe Flow here in Helsinki) during the summer without a big tote I have lug around everywhere.

2. A ticket to see Wooden Wisdom – ELIJAH WOOD! Do I even need to say more? He’s DJing in Helsinki at club Kaiku (one of the three clubs I ever go to) in August and I had to get a ticket.

#YearOfHappy: I Went Thrifting

yearofhappy This month’s #YearOfHappy linkup, hosted by the lovely Elizabeth at October June and Allison at Allisonleighann, instructed us to go thrifting (or to a Dollar Store, but we don’t really have those here) so I went to a couple of flea markets at Seinäjoki, while I was visiting my mom last weekend.

I try and avoid buying too many things on a whim but since these items were so cheap, I didn’t have a problem getting them. So, the light brown cardigan I got because no one can ever have too many chunky knits. This is perfect while it’s still cold but I want to wear a thin, summery top underneath. And the plaid tunic is so my style, that I couldn’t not get it. I love the bright colors and it’s casual enough for daily wear but it’s not like one of my winter-y flannel plaid shirts.

#YearofHappy

(Ugh, I do not like the quality of these pictures, but of course I waited until evening to take them and completely lost all the natural light…)

I try to mainly buy functional clothes that I can wear a lot and these two definitely fit the bill…Also, I didn’t really find much else – but I guess it’s a good thing, because it must mean I have pretty much everything I could want or need :)

London Haul: So Much Fandomness

Here is FINALLY my London haul post! Been crazy busy at school because of the looming exam week that I haven’t had much time to post even though I have a lot of stuff waiting for you guys, like this post, tomorrow’s 5 Fandom Friday, Valentine’s post, etc.

So anyway, this post is just to highlight some of the AMAZING stuff I got when I was in London. First of all, I had already planned before the trip that I really wanted to visit The Who Shop, which is a shop and a museum dedicated just for Doctor Who! How brilliant is that? I got some stuff like magazines, earrings, postcards, and a T-shirt. But the main reason for my visit was the museum. They had so much cool stuff like props and costumes there!

who shop fandom

I also went to the Harry Potter shop at King’s Cross, which was super adorable, although majorly crowded. I did find the cutest Platform 9 3/4 mug from there though! (And some other stuff…)

Here you can see the full scope of everything I bought… So much fandom stuff! It made me super happy. Not pictured is the Buffy book that I ended up getting right before going to the airport on our way home. Gosh, I think I have a million Harry Potter shirts by now…

I also got bunch of stuff from Forbidden Planet and the Buffy book was actually from the Cinema Store so if you go to London, be sure to check them out!

fandom haul

Here are the very few non-fandom things I got. I had to grab a few books since it’s been a habit of mine forever. Also, I love bookstores in the UK! So, since I’ve been meaning to read more John Green’s books and I’ve wanted to read Fangirl for a while now, I grabbed these.

And what girl doesn’t need a new dress and a top every now and then? ;)

Tomorrow you can look forward to the latest 5 Fandom Friday! And I’ll try to get that Valentine’s Day recap post up asap :)

ALSO, I’d like to promo our English student paper BTSB, because our newest issue just came out and  wrote about fandom “sights” in London.

OOTD: Flow-y Top and a Long Vest

Another outfit post :) I recently got this new black long vest and I figured I’d pair it with something cute and flow-y – a.k.a. my Audrey Hepburn tunic top, which I bought from Indonesia last year.

I also wanted to combine them with my new black leggings, which I’ve reserved for tops that a slightly too short to be dresses but too long be just regular shirts. The leggings are the ones I got from Tallinn from Reserved.

Any thoughts on my OOTD?

Outfit of the Day: Classy Casual

Outfit of day: a classy but nonetheless casual ensemble for a coffee date with a friend. I didn’t want to overdress but I wanted to look nice.

classy

So, I paired a nice mint colored shirt with a simple gray, short skirt.

Headed to a Party: Cocktail Dress

Last weekend I attended our English student organization’s anniversary dinner party. The dress code has been under a lot of debate during my time at the university and no one ever seems to know whether to opt for a proper evening gown or a nice cocktail dress. Last year I chose the evening gown but this year – partly because of the snow storm outside – I went with a cocktail dress that I hadn’t really worn before that.

It was a good choice because it allowed plenty of movement but was still dressy enough for the occasion. I also like to think that it went well with my red hair. :D I accessorized with a pair of turquoise drop earrings and a pair of denim ballerinas (I needed comfy shoes so it didn’t matter that they didn’t match the cocktail dress perfectly).

What’s the last time you had to wear a fancy dress? (I for one don’t get enough of those occasions.)

What to Wear to a Wedding: Style Guide

wedding what-to-wear

I got invited to my cousin’s wedding and I wanted to share a little style guide on what to wear to a wedding where you are as a guest. I haven’t attended too many weddings, so it was a lot of fun to try out these different styles.

wedding style 1

    • the first dress I love and it would’ve been appropriate for the wedding (it’s modest but stylish)
    • the second dress I decided against because I felt I would’ve looked like I was part of the wedding – so this style would be great for a bridesmaid or a flower girl but maybe not a guest
    • this last dress I like and it would’ve also been appropriate but since it is winter right now I wanted to go with a more colorful dress

So in the end I went with this bright red short dress, which I got from Mango in Indonesia. I covered up with a cute but edgy blazer from Fashion Union.
